Athletic Training & Sports Medicine

This website serves as the Owatonna (MN) High School Athletic Training Department's official website.

Owatonna Sports Medicine is a cooperative between OHS Athletic Department, Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute, Allina Health, Owatonna Hospital, and the Owatonna Clinic/Mayo Health System

Owatonna, Minnesota is a community of approximately 26,000 residents.  It is located along Interstate 35 about an hour south of Minneapolis/St. Paul area.  Enrollment at Owatonna High School is roughly 1,500 students in grades 9 through 12.

OHS Head AThletic Trainer

Terry "TC" Carlyle, ATC, ATR, works for the Courage Kenny Rehab Institute - Owatonna Hospital - part of Allina Health.  He is the Head Athletic Trainer at Owatonna High School and has served in this capacity since July, 1990

TC is a native of Colfax, Iowa and earned his Degree in 1986 from William Penn College.  He joined the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) in 1984 and became a NATA Certified Athletic Trainer in 1988.  He is currently registered with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and a member of the Minnesota Athletic Trainers' Association (MATA).

TC came to Owatonna in July, 1990, and began working in the Rehab Department at the Owatonna Hospital.  He previously spent 3 years working at the William Penn College and Mahaska County Hospital and 1 1/2 years at HealthReach (Rehab Center) in Albert Lea.

In additional to serving as OHS's Head Athletic Trainer, TC contracts through Courage Kenny Rehab Institute of Owatonna Hospital to consult with Medford High School, Blooming Prairie High School, Owatonna Law Enforcement Center, Owatonna Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, and various community businesses and organization.

Assistants to the Athletic Trainer

Ken Ringhofer, NREMT-P (Paramedic).  Ken is a Paramedic with Gold Cross Ambulance, Owatonna, and serves as the Gold Cross Liason and EMS Instructor for the OHS Athletic Training Deparment.

Ken graduated from OHS in 1981.  He earned his Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and joined Gold Cross Ambulance in 1990.  In 1998 he completed his paramedic training.  He has helped as a volunteer assistant to the Athletic Trainer for several years.  He has assisted with teaching the Athletic Training Student Assistant Program segments on emergency procedures, back boarding, CPR, and AED. Ken and his wife Edna reside in Owatonna.
