Recent Clay Target News

The 2023 Regular Season ended for the Owatonna Clay Target Team on May 17th. OCTT competed in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League’s Class 9A Conference 2, which is made up of the 7 largest teams in MN. Our athletes had a tremendous season finishing in 2nd Place behind a very good team from Prior Lake.

For 2023, the team was led by Seniors Taylor Busho with a 23.9 avg and Dawson Risser with a 23.6 avg. 

Taylor finishes her OHS career as the first girl in team history to make the MN All-State Team (2023), lead the Conference as High Average Female (2023, 2022), lead the Owatonna Clay Target Team in average (2023. 2022) & to shoot a 50 straight for league (2X), qualify for the MSHSL Individual State Tournament (2023) & qualify for the MSHSL Team State Tournament (2021). She will continue her education & shooting sports career at Simpson College in Indianola, IA.

Dawson wraps up his high school clay target career as our High Average Male, T3rd Conference Male Top 25 & tied for the team lead for 25 straights (5) for the season. Dawson had great senior season, and just missed the All-State Team by 1 target. He will continue his education at MSU-Mankato.

The rest of our senior group had a successful & fun year leading our team as well. Teagun Ahrens finishes his career with the 3rd high team avg & T7th Conference Male Top 25. Chris Homuth had the 4th high team avg & was T15th Conference Male Top 25. Alyssa Kiefer had the 6th highest team avg & was 3rd Conference Female Top 25. Sierra Spindler was 9th on the team list & wrapped her career in 4th on the Conference Female Top 25 list. Andrew Skov was 10th on team avg list and anchored the Wed evening group. Anna Fox was T13th Conference Female Top 25. Elizabeth Roesner had her best season finishing 18th on the Conference Top 25 list and was the Team Most Improved Female. Anna Youngquist finished T23rd on the Conference Top 25. The balance of the seniors all had solid seasons on trap field: Hailey Barker, Brady Hansen, Briley Highfield, Christian Hiller, Natalie Krumholz, Cade Luebben, Kollin Martin, Aiden Reuter, Carter Strawmatt & Luis Yciano Jr. Congratulations Seniors & Good Luck with your future plans!

60 student athletes earned their Varsity Letters during both the regular season & postseason. 

Next up for the team is the 2023 Minnesota Trap Shooting Championships in Alexandria, MN on Tuesday, June 20th. The OCTT will compete against all 16 Class 9A teams while at the Championships. Athletes will compete in 1 of 3 divisions based on their regular season avg- Varsity (19-25), JV (15-18.99) & Novice (0-14.99). Individual & team awards are given in each division. The Championships is also where a team can qualify for the MSHSL Clay Target State Tournament in Prior Lake, MN on June 23rd. The Top 40 teams from all 340+ schools in Classes 1A-9A at the MN Championships, will qualify for the team state tournament.
