OCTT Receives 2022 NRA Foundation Grant

By Coach Kingland, 07/19/22, 11:00AM CDT

In the fall of 2021, The Owatonna Clay Target Boosters applied for a 2022 NRA Foundation Grant to help purchase 3 new Garmin Xero Trap Shooting Trainers for the Owatonna Clay Target Team. In February 2022, the OCTB/OCTT was notified by the NRAF, that it had been approved for a grant to purchase these products.

The Garmin Xero S1 Trainer is a device that allows our athletes & coaches to see in real time, where their shot pattern is in relation to the target as it records the athlete's reaction time. The Garmin trainers are like a live action patterning board. The metrics they measure & the data they provide are simply put- very cool & extremely useful! The data gives our athletes & coaches confidence in what we as a team are trying to teach and develop.  An athlete/coach can immediately see the effectiveness of any changes made to an athlete’s shooting routine- foot position, stance, gun mount, hold point, visual hold, follow through, timing, etc. Combining the use of a traditional pattern board, teaching the fundamentals of the sport & using the Garmin Xero S1 trainer, gives our team an advantage in athlete development & competition. The Garmin Xero S1 Trap Shooting trainers have been implemented as a standard tool in our teaching & training program. They will see extensive use with both our fall developmental team, and our spring competitive team, moving forward.

Next, the addition of the 3 new Garmin Xero S1 Trap Shooting Trainers now means we can have a full squad of 5 all practicing together, while each athlete is able to gather valuable knowledge about how their execution of the fundamentals relates to the outcome they get.

The NRA Foundation Grant Program "...benefits a variety of constituencies throughout the United States including children, youth, women, individuals with physical disabilities, gun collectors, law enforcement officers, hunters and competitive shooters."

Finally, the Owatonna Clay Target Team sincerely appreciates the NRA Foundation for this grant. THANK YOU!
