2023 MN Trap Shooting Championships & 2023 MSHSL Clay Target State Tournament

The Owatonna Clay Target Team had 76 athletes compete at the 2023 Class 9A MN Trap Shooting Championships near Alexandria, MN on Tuesday, June 20th. It was a very good day as the team qualified for the MSHSL Clay Target State Tournament.

The Varsity finished the MN Championships in 3rd Place with a 480/500. The Jr Varsity & Novice teams both finished in 6th place with 433 & 362 respectively. Teagun Ahrens led the Varsity Team with a 99, which tied him for 1st. However, the reverse run tiebreaker rule ended up moving him to 5th on the Varsity Male side. Alyssa Kiefer took 1st Place Varsity Female with a 97 & Sierra Spindler grabbed 3rd Place Varsity Female with a 96. Many personal bests were shot up in Alexandria, plus an additional 8 athletes earned their varsity letter at the Championships.

The MSHSL Clay Target State Tournament was held on Friday, June 23 at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake, MN. Taylor Busho had earned her spot in the Individual Tournament by making the 2023 MN All-State team (Top 100 avgs from the regular season). On the Team side of things, OCTT made the state tournament for the 3rd time in 6 seasons. Our state squad consisted of the Top 7 scorers from the 2023 MN Trap Shooting Championships, which included Teagun Ahrens, Alyssa Kiefer, Sierra Spindler, Jackson Davis, McLain Mogen, Kayden Glynn (alternate) & Parker Klecker (alternate). Only the Top 40 teams from all 9 Classes (340 teams) at the MN Championships make it to the MSHSL Clay Target State Tournament.

Individual State Results: Taylor shot a 97/100 to tie for 4th Place. The tie breaker rules moved her to 6th Place in the Girls Division. Taylor is the first OCTT athlete to medal at the state tournament & make the Fleet Farm Top Gun All Tournament Team. Congratulations Taylor!

Team Results: The state squad ended up in 35th Place with a 456/500. Their scores were as follows- Teagun 94, Alyssa 94, Jackson 93, McLain 89 & Sierra 86. Congratulations all!
